Search finds items in your workspace by their name: tasks, notes, projects, boards, calendars, spreadsheets, whiteboards, board columns, tags and files. It is also the quickest way to jump to a place, make a new task or note, or run a command.

On Desktop and Web

Click the search button at the top right of the window, or press ⌘KCtrlK. Search opens in the pane on the right, with the cursor in the search field.

On Tablet and Foldable

Tap the search button at the top right of the screen. With a keyboard, press ⌘KCtrlK.

On Phone

Tap the Search tab, then type in Search everything. If you have turned the Search tab off, tap the search button at the top of the main screens instead.

Before you type, Search shows your Recent items and Suggested actions, such as a new task in the board you used last, Go to Today and Go to Upcoming.

Shown on an Android foldable; on an iPhone Duo the item's tools sit in a side bar on the right.

Find an item#

  1. Type part of the item's name. Results appear as you type, grouped by kind, with the matching letters highlighted.
  2. Select a result to open it.
On Desktop and Web

You can also use the keyboard: ↑ and ↓ move through the results, Return opens one, ⌘ReturnCtrlEnter opens it in a new tab, and ⌥ReturnAltEnter opens it in split view. Press Esc to close Search.

Search matches names, and the descriptions of spreadsheets. It does not look inside notes: to find a note by a word in its text, use the search field at the top of the notes list. See Write and format notes.

Search only one kind of item#

On Desktop, Web, Tablet and Foldable

Select a kind under the search field: All, Tasks, Notes, Projects, Boards, Calendars, Spreadsheets, Whiteboards, Sections (board columns), Tags or Files. While you type, only the kinds with results are shown, each with how many it has.

On Desktop and Web

Press Tab to move to the next kind.

On Phone

Tap Search: All at the top, then choose a kind, such as Tasks, Notes or Projects.

When you have typed something, the Create group at the end offers New task “…” and New note “…” with what you typed as the name. Select one to make it in the board or project shown next to it.

Run a command#

Search can also run commands, such as making a new project or tag, going to a place, or changing what you see.

On Desktop and Web

Type > at the start of the search field. Commands include New project, New tag, Go to places such as Recently deleted and Settings, Toggle sidebar, New tab, Reopen closed tab and Sign out…. With an item open, there are commands for it too, such as Share…, Copy link and Show details. Press ⌫ on an empty field to go back to searching.

On Tablet and Foldable

Select Actions under the search field, then choose a command.

On Phone

Tap Search: All, then Actions, and tap a command, such as New project or New tag.

Shown on an Android foldable; on an iPhone Duo the item's tools sit in a side bar on the right.

See everything you opened recently#

The Recent section shows the items you opened last. Select See all for the full list, which you can filter by type, project, device and time. See Recent items and restoring deleted ones.

Keep Search open#

On Desktop, Web, Tablet and Foldable

Normally Search closes when you open a result. To keep it open while you look through several results, select the pin button at the top of the Search pane.

On Phone

The pin is on computers and tablets only.
