A board shows a project's tasks as cards in columns, such as Ideas, Drafting and Editing. Moving a card from one column to the next is how you show its progress. A project can have more than one board, and every board can also be shown as a list, a calendar or a timeline.

Open a board#

On Desktop and Web
  1. In the sidebar, under Projects, click the project.
  2. In the items column, click the board.

The board opens in a tab. The items column shows the project's other items, so you can switch between them.

On Phone
  1. Tap Projects, then tap the project.
  2. Tap the board.

Each column fills the screen, with the next column peeking in at the edge. Swipe left or right to change columns, or tap a column's name in the row at the top.

Add a task to a column#

On Desktop and Web
  1. Click + at the top of the column, or Add task at the bottom of it. A new task opens in the pane on the right, already set to that column.
  2. Type the task's name. Add a due date, a reminder or anything else you need.
  3. Click Create task.

New task at the top right of the board does the same for the board's default column; you can pick another column in the pane. For every field you can set, see Create and manage tasks.

On Tablet and Foldable
  1. Tap + at the top of the column, or Add task at the bottom of it. A new task opens in the pane on the right.
  2. Type the task's name where it says "What needs doing?", and add any details you need.
  3. Tap ✕ at the top of the pane. The task is saved when the pane closes.
On Phone
  1. Swipe to the column, then tap Add task at the bottom of it. You can also tap ⋯ in the column's header, then Add Task.
  2. Type the task's name where it says "What needs doing?". Add dates, priority or people if you like.
  3. Tap ✕ at the top of the sheet. The task is saved when the sheet closes.

Move a card#

Drag a card to another column to change its stage, or up and down to change its order. While you drag, a line shows where the card will go:

  • Drop it between two cards to place it there.
  • Drop it on the middle of another card to make it a subtask of that card.
On Desktop and Web

Click and hold the card, then drag it. To reach a column off screen, drag the card to the board's edge and it scrolls.

On Phone

Touch and hold the card until it lifts, then drag it without lifting your finger. Drag it to the side of the screen to move to the next column.

If you lift your finger without moving, the card's menu opens instead. Tap outside the menu to close it.

On Tablet and Foldable

Touch and hold the card, then drag it. Drag it to the edge of the board to scroll to columns off screen.

Change a card from its menu#

Each card has a menu with its most common actions: open it, change its status, priority or due date, add a subtask, copy a link to it, or delete it.

On Desktop and Web

Right-click the card. The menu also has Open in new tab and Open in split view.

On Phone, Tablet and Foldable

Touch and hold the card, then lift your finger without dragging.

Rename, recolour or rearrange a column#

Open the column's menu: clicktap ⋯ in the column's header. From there you can:

  • Rename the column.
  • Pick a new Colour. It shows on the column's dot and in the calendar and timeline views.
  • Set as default column: new tasks that you add without choosing a column go here.
  • Move left or Move right.
  • Collapse column to fold it into a narrow strip. Select the strip to open it again.
  • Delete column. Its tasks move to the default column, so nothing is lost. The default column itself cannot be deleted: make another column the default first.

Filter, group and sort cards#

The view options let you show only some cards, arrange them by something other than their column, and choose what each card shows. They are saved for each board.

On Desktop and Web
  1. Above the board, click the Filter button.
  2. Choose what to show:
    • Show tasks where: filter by Priority, Assignee, Tags or Due date (such as Overdue or This week).
    • Arrange: Group by status, priority, assignee or tag, and Sort by manual order, priority, due date or name.
    • Show on cards: turn Description, Tags, Dates and Subtasks on or off.
  3. Click Done. Reset puts every option back.
On Tablet and Foldable
  1. In the toolbar at the top, tap the view options button.
  2. Tap Group By, Sort By, Filter or Show on Cards, then choose an option.
On Phone

If you group by priority, assignee or tag, dragging a card to another group changes that field. For example, in a board grouped by priority, dragging a card to High makes it high priority.
